The perfect babymoon in Abu Dhabi

Babymoon: noun A relaxing or romantic holiday taken by parents-to-be before their baby is born.

I always knew that I wanted a babymoon even before I got pregnant, maybe its a milenial thing but it was just amazing to have that one on one time as a couple in a beautiful place before our new arrival.

After a few hours of researching the perfect destination, we chose Abu Dhabi as it has sun, beaches and beautiful sights.

Stay in a beachfront hotel

We wanted somewhere on the beach, with a huge pool, great service and close to the sights. This is where the Ritz-Carlton was perfect for us. The hotel is situated very close to The Grand Mosque which means there are so many great views from the hotel. The hotel even has its own ‘Instagram Spot’ which has unbelievable views of the mosque. Just ask concierge to take you there  and they will be more than happy to buggy you to the location which is a few minutes from reception.

The pool at the hotel is huge and is heated during winter, it was perfect for my pregnant aching body to swim and feel weightless. There are two pools – the main pool which is the larger pool and the adults only pool. The hotel also has its own private beach 😻

We were on the half board package whilst at the hotel which included breakfast at the restaurant buffet and lunch or dinner at the restaurant buffet or a la carte at the 3 restaurants in the hotel – steak, Lebanese or Chinese. There is so much to choose from and our bellies were so full everyday.

Visit the grand mosque

No trip to Abu Dhabi is complete without visiting the Grand Mosque. Entrance is free and includes rental of an abaya (a long dress that goes over your clothes, so that you are dressed modestly). Men must wear full length trousers and short sleeve tshirts/shirts are fine. Take around an hour to fully appreciate the beauty and architecture of the Mosque.

Visit the Emirates Palace

Ah Emirates Palace, so fancy and grand. Guests can stay in the beautiful rooms as it is a hotel or indulge in the afternoon tea. We didn’t have a reservation and decided to visit as we actually wanted a photo of the Etihad Towers. In front of the hotel is the perfect spot for this. Its also a good photo opp of the hotel and its stairs that you may have seen on Instagram. We then decided to go inside the Emirates Palace as it is free and a good place to rest and admire the lobby.

Visit the Louvre

You have probably heard about the Louvre in Paris but Abu Dhabi also has its very own. Entrance is 63 AED (around £13) for adults and is home to some amazing art paintings and sculptures. We aren’t the biggest art geeks but we really enjoyed looking at the artwork there. The architecture of the Louvre is very impressive, as the roof of the dome shaped building has little holes where the sunlight comes through. It is really unique.

Get your shop on

There are many malls to visit whilst in Abu Dhabi, the ones that we visited are Marina Mall and Yas Mall. The malls are huge and there are tons of shops and restaurants to visit. Yas Mall also features ferrari world which you can visit but pregnant women can not ride on the rollercoaster. That was another reason why we did not explore more of Yas Island, which has a waterpark and theme park. It would be great for families and couples to visit.

Pregnancy massage

This was the best part of our trip and was much needed for my pregnant body. The spa at the Ritz Carlton have a specialised massage for pregnant women which is tailored to pregnant bodies. The massage began with a back exfoliation whilst sat up, then you lay on each side for a back, arm and leg massage. It was amazing and so relaxing.

Other pregnancy friendly things to do

There are many more things to do whilst in Abu Dhabi but we wanted our time to be as relaxing as possible and therefore did not leave the hotel as much as we normally would have if we were not pregnant. Here is a quick list of other things to do.

Visit Dubai – Dubai is located around an hour and a half from Abu Dhabi.

Visit a beach club – Saadiyat beach club is highly rated and looks beautiful.

Afternoon tea in the sky – The observation deck at 300 is on the 74th floor and offers amazing views of the city.

Andddd Relax!! – Make sure you get lots of relaxing time together before the biggest change in your life arrives.
