When you think of Capaddocia, the first thing that pops into your head is the hot air balloons right? Well that was the main reason why we wanted to visit this magical city. Flying in a hot air balloon over the fairy chimneys, surrounded by other hot air balloons at sunrise, was at the top of our bucket list.
We decided to book with Royal Balloon after reading great reviews about their customer service. Customer service is so important to us; especially when it involves being so high up. Royal Balloons did such an amazing job of making our experience truly unforgettable.
The day started by being picked up from our hotel at around 4am and going to their headquarters. When you arrive you are assigned into groups before going through to the breakfast buffet which has a wide choice of hot and cold food. Drinks are also included. While we ate we waited for the green light on whether we could fly or not due to weather conditions – this is taken very seriously and balloons are not allowed to take off if the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority think it is unsafe.
We had the green light and we were off to the launch site in our small teams. Arriving at the launch site was mesmerising. There were balloons being inflated, balloons setting off and balloons already in the sky. It was beautiful.
Once our balloon was inflated, we were assisted into our compartment – the balloon has 4 holding compartments and 1 for the pilot. There were 4 people in each of the compartments and we felt as though we still had plenty of room. Our pilot was very informative and funny, he made the experience very enjoyable. We felt very safe and although both of us are a little afraid of heights, we were not scared at all because there is too much to admire around you than to look down.
The flight lasted 70 minutes and flew over Love valley, Red valley, Pigeon Valley, Goreme and Uchisar. The views were so magical and we didn’t want to ever land, but all good things must come to an end right? Once we landed we were helped out of the basket and handed a medal. A medal guys! How nice is that?! Glasses of champagne/orange juice was given to everyone with chocolate covered strawberries. Also as it was one of the customers birthday, a cake was brought out by the crew and we all enjoyed a slice of yummy cake. The crew were amazing! we had never experienced customer service like that before.
There is a photographer who will take your photo at the launch site, with the other balloons in the background and also when you are on board of the balloon. These are 10 Lira each, which was nice to have.
We booked the Royal Queen Flight which lasts around 60 minutes and has a maximum of 16 passengers. There is also the Royal King flight which lasts 90 minutes and has a maximum of 12 passengers. Both packages are definitely worth it and it just depends on whether you want longer time in the sky. If you book directly on their website then you are given a Royal Balloon cap which is a really nice souvenir. TIP – ask about their cash discount.
We definitely recommend Royal Balloons, but whoever you decide to book your balloon flight with, make sure you read their reviews and ensure that they are a reputable company. It’s all about the experience and you want to make sure that its unforgettable in a good way.
